Thank you for your interest in submitting to Commons Magazine’s UNCOMMON/WORD: A collection of commons-inspired poetry. Submissions are now closed. The next submission period will open on April 1st, 2014.

What kind of work is Commons Magazine looking for?
We will review work twice yearly, often on a theme or specific subject. Six poets will be selected and featured in the magazine during each submission round.

Does Commons Magazine accept previously published material?
Yes.

Does Commons Magazine pay an honorarium for publication?
Yes. Poets will receive a flat rate of $50 for work published in the Poet of Month column; payment is made upon publication.

How do I submit my work to Commons Magazine?
Email work to poetrysubmissions@onthecommons.org. Please note there is a limit of THREE (3) poems per person, per submission round.

What file types can I submit?
Please submit files in one of the following formats only:
Word document (.doc) files
Rich Text Format (.rtf) files
Text (.txt) files
Portable Document Format (.pdf) files
Word Perfect (.ppf) files

Please note that submissions are limited to three poems (1 file), and cannot exceed a total of 25 MB. Poems should be submitted in a single file, with poems separated by titles or page breaks. Please include all writer contact info on the first page of the submitted file.

When can I submit to Commons Magazine?
We accept submissions twice per year: April through June, and October through December. You can submit three poems during each submission round. All three poems must be submitted in a single file.

How are featured poets chosen, and when can I expect to hear about my submission?
Poets are chosen by Commons Magazine’s team of poet advisors. You can learn about the 2013/14 cohort of advisers here. It can take up to four months to receive a response regarding selection of your work.

Due to volume of work received we cannot respond to inquiries about the status of submissions. Please ensure that you set your e-mail spam filter to allow mail from onthecommons.org; otherwise notification regarding your submission may be marked as junk mail.

Do you accept standard mail submissions?
Yes. Please send no more than three poems, totaling no more than 10 pages, to:
